  1. Just wanted to share a story about "Why to follow processes?". For an Example, trying to manage implementation without Stage 6 Process is like playing football without a game plan. The coach would get the players together and say, "How should we play this game? we are supposed to get more points than the other team and to do that we have to score goals. Now everyone go out and do what you think needs to be done in order to win."
Team, what are the chances that the team will win? Not very high. Right?
so What's missing? A game plan for how to go about winning. The coordinated execution of the game plan. A process for revising the game plan based on how the game progresses.
Think about it and ask yourself, Are we playing the game without a game plan or with the game plan? !!! [More next week]

  2. Team,

Last week, we talk about the "Foot Ball Team" and the game plan. Let us dig in to it this week and start exploring each element of "How to make a game plan"?

One mistake that is done by most of the Project Managers is to plan things for the project. They can't think of everything, their estimates for task durations are wrong, and the entire thing falls apart once the project is started. The first rule of the project management is that the people who must do the work should help plan it. That is why in six gate, we have people involved from each division to kick off the Implementation and transition plan.

One of the most important thing for any project/ task to accomplish success, is shared knowledge about what task/ project should accomplish or design a good work breakdown structure that involves all the tasks to be done to complete the project. The role of ITL is that of an enabler. His job is to help team get the work completed...He should be above everything - a leader, in the true sense.

"Leadership is the art of getting others to want to do something that you believe should be done" - Vance Packard

Implementation- a simple definition, it includes the sequence in which the work will get done, who will do what and how long each step will take...
Planning - What must be done/ Available options? Who will do it? How will it be done? When must it be done? How much will it cost?
Execution and Control - Once the plan is approved, the team can begin work. This is the execution phase, it also includes control, because while the plan is being executed, the progress is monitored to ensure the work is progressing according to the plan. i.e., TAT, Quality, Interface, Process Flow, etc...
Close out: What did we do well? What do we want to improve next time? i.e., Knowledge base
